Introduction The British Embassy in Armenia is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Trade and Prosperity Officer, B3(L), based in Yerevan. Responsible for promote and support Trade and Investment between the UK and Armenia, the Trade and Prosperity Officer will work directly with the Deputy Head of Mission. The main focus of the job is to increase participation of UK companies in Yerevan and encourage development of British-Armenian economic and trade relations. This will be achieved by increasing awareness of opportunities for UK business in Armenia, and, inter alia, working to support local authorities to improve the business and investment climate in Armenia, as well highlighting the opportunities for inward investments into the UK for Armenian business. Main Duties / Responsibilities Supporting business Serves as advocate and information resource for British business. Provides support to British businesses on local and regional economic conditions; advocates and serves as Embassy point of contact for British companies involved in business and investment disputes. Identifies business opportunities in Armenia in a wide range of sectors. Collaborates with British business organizations on projects and promotes British investment in Armenia. Tracks, monitors and researches projects sponsored by international organizations and the Government of Armenia that may present commercial opportunities for British companies. Conducts surveys and prepares economic reports on sectors of interest to the British business community. Designs and implements projects, conferences, roundtables, visits on business and investment themes, with the overall goal of improving the business environment and opportunities for British business. Develops and maintains contacts with officials at all levels in government agencies, private firms, international agencies and missions and NGOs. Follows developments in Armenian legislation and regulations pertaining to business and economics. Responds to inquiries on business and economics as well as other general inquiries as necessary. Supporting Embassy senior staff and other government officials Obtains information from official and business sources on matters relating to economic developments in Armenia and the region. Processes and analyses information and data on economic issues. Prepares timely and regular factual and analytical reports on important trends, developments and forecasts in the relevant sectors and advice on lobbying strategies for business environment issues. Accompanies the Deputy Head of Mission and Ambassador on official calls, field trips, and official functions. Provides background information for visiting officials, accompanies visiting delegations on official calls and serves as interpreter when required. Liaises with UK Trade and Investment hubs. Contributes to the Embassy’s overall communication strategy and to the work of the Communications Team to ensure maximum visibility and exposure for British-Armenian economic and trade relations. Contributes to the work of the Embassy Political Team to highlight the link(s) between economic/trade and political developments. Required Experience & Skills Minimum of three years working experience. Degree in Economics, International Relations or other relevant field. Job Knowledge: A good working knowledge of Armenia’s economy, of the local business customs and practices, marketing channels, and of Armenia’s government laws, regulations and policies relating to the commodity / industry sector(s) for which responsible. General understanding of regional economic relations. Good understanding of UK economic and trade policy objectives. Good analytical and written skills to produce regular economic reporting. Resourceful with strong creative and communications skills. Self-starter, able to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong customer focus and problem solving skills. Flexible and able to work to tight deadlines. Able to establish strong contact networks and deal effectively with senior level interlocutors. Fluency in Armenian and English (oral and written) essential, Russian is an advantage. Terms and Conditions This is a full-time position for an initial contract period of 24 months. Working hours are 35 per week, Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 17:00. Because this position requires some availability to travel some degree of flexibility is expected. The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Armenia in order to apply. The monthly salary for this position is 804,100 AMD (gross). Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Armenia are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Armenian employment law.
