Vacancy Announce Number: 13 Position Title: Intern- Socio-Economic Governance Programme Contract Type: Internship Languages Required: English, Armenian Posting Date: 24 Mar 2015 Application Deadline: 07 Apr 2015 23:55 Contract Date: 01 May 2015 Duration of Initial Contract: 6 Months Document: intern TOR.doc Background To ensure that economic growth is both inclusive and sustainable, UNDP Armenia Socio-economic Governance (SEG) Programme is expanding its community development work to become an integrated rural development programme including environmental sustainability considerations, targeting in particular vulnerable border regions, and support to the agricultural sector in line with the government priorities. This includes pro-poor participatory planning with communities to identify needs and priorities, which may include infrastructure rehabilitation and creating income generating opportunities, such as family farming, small scale agro-processing. Supporting specifically the agricultural sector, UNDP is assisting in the implementation of Armenia’s first post-independence agricultural census (providing technical support) and producer group and value chain development (through capacity building, establishment of cooperatives, market access promotion and introducing sustainable agricultural practices). Currently UNDP Armenia seeks a qualified Intern to provide support to the SEG Programme team. The Intern will work under direct supervision of the SEG Programme Senior Adviser, Programme Associate and in close cooperation with UNDP SEG Projects’ teams, and the counterpart institutions/organizations. Description of Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities of the Intern will include: 1. Research activities To address existing and emerging challenges in the area of socio-economic governance, namely community development, agriculture, vocational education and training and eco-tourism, the programme conducts desk reviews, reviews of existing and innovative solutions. The Intern is expected to support the Programme team in thematic research and review initiatives in the mentioned areas, including drafting concepts, etc. 2. Work with Social Media Social media is one of the public awareness channels within UNDP. The Intern will be responsible for supporting the SEG Programme team in regular monitoring of the social media platforms and networks and contribution to them, summarize the information and report on the respective ongoing discussions and activity. 3. Provide administrative and logistical support The Intern will provide support to the Programme team in administrative and logistical work. The support will include arrangements for the organized meetings/events/workshops, as well as translation and interpretation services from/to English and Armenian during meetings, as required. 4. Other duties Other tasks may be assigned as required. Competencies • Knowledge of major socio-economic developments and challenges faced by the country will be a strong asset; • Demonstrated initiative, tact and high sense of responsibility and discretion; • Strong teamwork skills; • Ability to work under the pressure; • Excellent communication skills, written and oral; • Excellent networking skills; • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, etc.); ability to design and maintain spreadsheets, as well as in handle web-based management systems. Qualifications Education and experience: • University Degree in social sciences, business administration, IT, communications; • Experience in conducting research, desk review, and other is a strong asset • Experience in working with databases and social media is a strong asset Languages: • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Armenian, Russian is a strong asset.
