Research Groups and Overview of the Research. The project led by Dr. Jan
Lagerwall, professor at the Research Unit for Physics & Materials Science, is
strongly interdisciplinary and it will bridge Physics and Computer Science.
Dr. Gabriele Lenzini, Senior research scientist in Computer Security of the
Applied Security and Information Assurance group (APSIA) will supervise the
research together with Prof. Peter Y. A. Ryan, Professor in Computer Security
and head of the APSIA research group (see
http://wwwen.uni.lu/snt/research/apsia).

Research
------------

The research will bridge new discoveries in physics of materials with
potentiality of breakthrough results, with origin in a new class of thin films
with unique optical properties, and use them as a basis for a novel secure
authentication technology. The position this call concerns is in computer
science. Tasks of the research is to uniquely identify objects that interface
digital systems, and to design secure protocols for their authentication. This
research is related with bio-metric and secure authentication protocol design
and analysis, but it will steer those topics towards new directions.

Your Profile
----------------

We are looking for an excellent candidate who possesses:

- a master’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics,
Engineering or related field;

- strong background in mathematics, physics or computer science
- experience in computer security and/or optics (this will be considered as an
advantage);
- commitment and capacity for team work and critical thinking;
- fluent written and verbal communication skills in English.

We offer
--------------

Three-year appointment (extension with a fourth year is possible if motivated)
