Research methods courses from the EPPI-Centre (UCL Institute of Education) will provide you with highly sought-after skills and knowledge, supporting career development in those academic, policy or practice settings where systematic reviews are used and produced. 1. Methods for Research Synthesis: from meta-analysis to meta-ethnography Fully online course runs from 20 April to 13 July 2015. Deadline for booking: 6 April 2015 This course is designed for experienced researchers who wish to gain an advanced, working knowledge of synthesis methods for systematic reviews. You will learn about, and use, both established and emerging methods (including statistical meta-analysis, thematic synthesis, realist synthesis, and mixed methods synthesis) that you can then employ in your own research. This course will provide you with highly sought after skills and knowledge, supporting career development in those academic, policy or practice settings where systematic reviews are used and produced. MSc in Research for public policy and practice - Reviewing and using research This MSc will equip you with conceptual and practical skills for conducting and appraising systematic reviews and evaluating the potential for and implementation of evidence-informed policy. Students can learn at a distance using a combination of online group and individual activities. You will receive support from experienced course tutors at mutually arranged times and written feedback on draft work. Students carry out activities at their own pace and at times of their own choosing, but are asked to complete specified tasks to set deadlines. MSc Social Policy and Social Research This MSc provides research-led teaching on contemporary substantive issues in social policy development and delivery, and social science research methods relevant to people working in an academic or policy context. The role of research in policy processes is a key programme theme. To take part you will usually need a second-class degree in health, education or another area of social science or policy, or have another professional qualification e.g. for teaching, police force, health care, social work. If you have other kinds of qualifications we may ask you to take a qualifying test. You will need to be able to communicate in English and have online access (see webpages below for full detail). A number of the MSc modules are taught using face-to-face sessions for students who prefer this style of learning. All the modules can also be taken as stand-alone courses with or without credit at Masters level. All are quality assured by the UCL Institute of Education.
