13:51 Conf, "Images of the 20th Century Wars – from Cubism to Surrealism", Nagoya Universit | |
Nagoya University, Japan, November 12, 2016 Deadline: Jun 3, 2016 Images of the 20th Century Wars – from Cubism to Surrealism This is an interdisciplinary colloquium organized to explore images from the wars of the 20th century in the context of cultural history. The wars of the 20th century have been variously represented by works of art, literature, photograph, and cinema. Confronted with the reality of those conflicts, artists, poets, novelists, photographers, and cineastes as part of artistic movements, such as Cubism, Futurism, Vorticism, Dadaism, Constructivism, and Surrealism, projected in their work images of the wars in which they lived, and showed contrasts between figuration and abstraction, subjectivity and objectivity, consciousness and unconsciousness, realism and phantasm. The objective of this colloquium is to address this expansive topic by bringing together a wide range of scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds, including those with interests in the history of art, literature, theatre, photography, and cinema. Presentations: We are inviting submission of abstracts of no more than 300 words for papers suitable for a presentation length of approximately 20 minutes. Please submit your abstract and a curriculum vitae (that must include personal identification elements, academic affiliation and a selection of a maximum of 5 bibliographic references) to Hiromi Matsui by email at: hiromi.matsui[a]lit.nagoya-u.ac.jp no later than June 3, 2016.
