CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb has opened two full-time positions for Research Assistant on the research project Disobedient Democracy financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The position is for five years, October 2016 to October 2021. Research Assistants are expected to enrol into a doctoral programme in political science or sociology, and complete their PhD dissertations on a topic closely related to the project. About the project In October 2016 the project Disobedient Democracy: A Comparative Analysis of Contentious Politics in the European Semi-periphery is starting at the Facultyx of Political Science of the University of Zagreb. The project analyses the recent cycle of contention against representative democracy in Europe. The main objective is to explore how contemporary social movements advance democratic practices and offer the possibility of democratic renewal in Europe. The project investigates contemporary democratic practices in four cities of the European semi-periphery: Zagreb, Belgrade, Madrid/Barcelona and Lisbon. Eligibility Criteria: - completed masters degree in political science or sociology by summer 2017, with distinction - being prepared to undertake a doctorate on the topic of the project Disobedient Democracy - solid knowledge of quantiative and qualitative research methods - excellent command of at least one language relevant for the project (Croatian, Serbian, spanish, Portugese) Additional criteria valued for the application: - previous civic activism - high motivation and independence - academic excellence (awards, scholarships) - international exposure The work contract is initially for one year, renewed in 2017 for another four years (five in total).
