software; and assisting the Director with the CESS administration. In
addition the Research Officer will be expected to engage in
independent scholarly research and to take part in the intellectual
life of the Nuffield CESS and the College.

Applicants should hold a bachelors and/or masters degree in a relevant
Social Science discipline (e.g. Economics, Political Science,
Sociology) or Computing Science or Statistics, and they must have
completed or be close to completing a doctorate in one of these
disciplines. They should also have familiarity with programming
on-line survey and virtual lab experiments and with software designed
for recruiting and managing the subject pool, and they should be able
to manage the cloud servers that run the virtual and on-line
experiments. They should have experience with managing large databases
and using statistical analysis software (such as R and Stata) and web
programming and scripting languages, such as PHP, Ruby on Rails, and
Python and related web sweeping and text analysis software. The
successful candidate should also have the ability and willingness to
undertake independent scholarly research and to deliver courses,
including courses associated with the CESS Summer Schools and training
courses that CESS provides for both students and external clients
(such as civil servants); and excellent oral and written communication
and organizational skills.

The salary offered is £34,389 p.a. - £35,951 p.a. (Research Officer
Scale). The post is full-time and permanent, with an initial
probationary period of twelve months. The starting date is 1 October
2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post-holder will be based
in the Nuffield CESS in Oxford.
