Conf. "Bequest of artworks to the Italian State", Lucca

Lucca, November 10, 2016
Deadline: Nov 3, 2016

Bequest of artworks to the Italian State from the end of the Nineteenth
Century to the present

The IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca and the LYNX Center for the
Interdisciplinary Analysis of Images is organizing a conference
entitled Bequest of artworks to the Italian State from the end of the
Nineteenth Century to the present, which will be held in Lucca on the
10th of November 2016. The conference will be made possible thanks to
the Association "L'Italia Fenice".

We are accepting papers that will be published along with the
conference proceedings in 2017. The papers should present a case study
on the subject of bequests of artworks to the Italian State from the
19th century to present time. Other examples related to foreign states,
which may or may not be connected to Italy, could also be taken into
consideration.
Related to the topic of artwork bequests are fiscal issues and
practical problems such as the recipient museum’s available spaces.
Nowadays fiscal incentives are prominent within the cultural policies
of a variety of States. Moreover, the study of reasons behind a bequest
allows for a deep historical and social analysis that goes beyond the
individual donor. The presented cases can deal with both single
artworks and entire collections donated to different kinds of museums,
both national and local, in addition to Italian State institutions.
Bequest refusals, or partial bequests, can also be included.

Papers will be accepted both in Italian, English or French with a
maximum of 20,000 characters (footnotes and bibliography included). The
submission deadline is the 3rd of November 2016.
