The School for Studies in Art and Culture (Art History) invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of either Associate or Full Professor, depending on qualifications, beginning July 1, 2017. Applications are welcome from established scholars who have expertise in any aspect(s) of Chinese historical and/or contemporary visual arts. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses within his/her area(s) of specialization as well as in broader related fields, and to supervise theses at the graduate level. The Art History sub-unit of the School for Studies in Art and Culture (http://carleton.ca/arthistory/) offers undergraduate programs in Art History and in the History and Theory of Architecture, as well as M.A. programs in Art History, in Art History with a Concentration in Art Exhibition and Curatorial Practices, and in Art History with a Specialization in Digital Humanities. Students wishing to pursue Ph.D. degrees under the supervision of Art History faculty members may apply to do so through the Cultural Mediations program of Carleton University’s Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Culture (https://carleton.ca/icslac/). Applicants must hold a Ph.D., and have a strong international track record of high-quality research as reflected in peer-reviewed publications and conference papers, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment is essential, and a background in museum and curatorial practice would be a strong asset. Complete applications, including a curriculum vitae, sample publications and a teaching dossier, should be sent electronically, ideally as a single PDF file, to Dr. Brian Foss, Director, School for Studies in Art and Culture, Carleton University – brian.foss@carleton.ca. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent separately. Please indicate in your application if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada. The Chair will be a full member of the Carleton University Academic Staff Association, with all academic rights, freedoms and responsibilities defined entirely and solely by the collective agreement between Carleton University and the Carleton University Academic Staff Association. Carleton University is committed to full freedom of academic research and dissemination.
